The achilles attaches your calf muscles to the back of your heel. Achilles tendonitis occurs when excessive pressure or force is applied to the tendon. Common causes are feet that "roll in" too much, overuse of the calf muscle/achilles tendon, tight calf muscles and wearing high heel shoes regularly.
Initial treatment includes icing, stretching and reducing stress on the achilles by your Podiatrist adding a heel lift. Strapping and supportive footwear is also recommended.
Orthoses can be fitted to your feet and footwear to ensure optimal foot function and permanently reduce stress on the achilles.
